Review: Shake, Rattle & Roll is a Filipino horror film series dating back to 1984. It is currently produced by Regal Films. Most of the series are official entries for the Metro Manila Film Festival with the exception of the sixth installment which premiered in January 1997. The title is solely based on the song of the same name.

This horror film franchise which is currently owned by Regal Films is known to be the only film series in the Philippines with the most movie installments. The first installment was released under the defunct Athena Productions while all the succeeding series are produced by Regal Entertainment. As of 2009, there are ten installments of the movie series, with the latest being premiered in December 2008.

Shake Rattle And Roll 11 (2009) Pinoy Movie

Despite the cheerful atmosphere of the Yuletide season, Regal Films has made it a tradition to scare families with their horror franchise Shake, Rattle and Roll. This 2009, moviegoers will be able to watch the 11th installment of SRR for the annual Metro Manila Film Festival. Here are the three segment of SRR 11:

Lamang Lupa

• Cast: Jennica Garcia, Rayver Cruz, Iya Villania, Mart Escudero, Bangs Garcia and twin brothers Dominic and Felix Roco. • Director: Jessel Monteverde The episode “Lamang Lupa” features some of the most sought-after young stars of the Kapamilya and Kapuso Networks: Jennica Garcia, Rayver Cruz, Iya Villania, Mart Escudero, Bangs Garcia and twin brothers Dominic Roco and Felix Roco. The story revolves around a group of friends who went camping only to find themselves relentlessly pursued by ferocious creatures called “lamanglupas.” Director for this episode is Jessel Monteverde.

Diablo

• Cast: Maja Salvador, Mark Anthony Fernandez, Cherry Pie Picache, Gina Alajar, Ron Morales, and Jairus Aquino • Director: Rico Gutierrez

The second episode, “Diablo,” will pair Maja Salvador with Mark Anthony Fernandez for the very first time. Directed by Rico Gutierrez, the episode tells the story of Claire, a young doctor-intern at a provincial hospital is haunted by demonic visions after she encounters a female patient who is suspected of carrying a deadly flu virus. Claire’s aunt brings her to Fr. Ronnie who turns out be Claire’s ex-boyfriend. Old flames are rekindled with both Fr. Ronnie and Claire battle the demons.

Ukay-Ukay

• Cast: Ruffa Gutierrez, Zoren Legaspi, Megan Young. • Director: Don Michael Perez

the “Ukay-Ukay” story with Ruffa Gutierrez and Zoren Legaspi as a would-be couple Kayla and Harold whose wedding plans are deterred by a possessed vintage gown. When it falls into their hands, heavy breathing, nightmares, dragging footsteps and an apparition of a headless bride start happening. Instead of planning a wedding, Kayla must now fight against the evil spirits. Megan Young is also cast in this episode. Writer-turned-director Don Michael Perez is at the helm.

Review: Nieves is a segment from Shake, Rattle and Roll 10 movie that the main cast is Miss Marian Rivera, a filipina heartrob. It is the official entry for Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2009. It’s a comedy, suspense and fantasy filipino (pinoy) movie that will shake, rattle and roll to avid movie goers.

Plot/synopsis: Nieves is the town’s famous and well-loved Engkanto Slayer. After the tragic loss of her husband Adonis (Mike “Pekto” Nacua), Nieves (Marian Rivera) resigns from her post as Engkanto Slayer. When strange and unexplainable attacks began to strike the whole town, Nieves is forced to resume her job as Engkanto Slayer. She, together with her slayers in training: Junie (Robert Villar) and Kaycee (Jennica Garcia) must team up to save the townsfolk from extinction. But everything begins to turn ugly as Kaysee is revealed to be Acacia (Diana Zubiri), Nieves’s rival for Adonis. Soon a confrontation occurred between them that leads to Acacia’s death and the restoration of peace at the townsfolk.

Review: Ang Panday (“The Blacksmith”) is an upcoming 2009 Philippine fantasy film that adaptsCarlo J. Caparas’ Panday comics. Directed by Rico Gutierrez and Mac Alejandre, thefilm adaptation stars Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr. as the title character. It is set for aDecember 25 release date.

Plot/sypnosis: Panday is a blacksmith whose real name is Flavio. When a meteor fell from the sky one night, he forged the metal from the meteor into a dagger, the balaraw. When he raises the dagger to the sky, it magically grows into a sword. He uses this magical sword to fight the evil Lizardo  and other supernatural beings. Eventually, Lizardo and his minions are destroyed.

Review: Me and Orson Welles (2009) is a period-drama film directed by Richard Linklater and starring Zac Efron, Christian McKay, and Claire Danes. Based on Robert Kaplow’s novel of the same name, the story, set in 1937 New York, tells of a teenager hired to star in Orson Welles’ production of Julius Caesar, where he becomes attracted to a career-driven production assistant.

Plot/sypnosis: Zac Efron will star as high school senior Richard Samuels—an age and grade level the actor knows well—who, while walking the streets of Manhattan one day, comes across Orson Welles’ still unopened Mercury Theater, where the Shakespearean auteur, pre-Citizen Kane, is staging a production of Julius Caesar. Richard lands a bit part in the play and does a lot of growing up during his brief time under Welles’ tutelage.

Review: The Princess and the Frog is an upcoming 2009 American animated family feature film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, which is loosely based on E.D. Baker’s novel The Frog Princess and the Grimm brothers’ The Frog Prince. It will be the 49th animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics and the first theatrically released 2D animated movie by Disney since 2004′s Home on the Range. It is being directed by John Musker and Ron Clements, directors of The Great Mouse Detective, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, and Treasure Planet, with songs and score composed by Randy Newman and with the voices of Anika Noni Rose (as Princess Tiana), Oprah Winfrey, Keith David, Jim Cummings, John Goodman, Jenifer Lewis, Bruno Campos, Michael-Leon Wooley, Peter Bartlett and Terrence Howard.

Review: Red Cliff  is a Chinese epic film based on the Battle of Red Cliffs and events during the end of the Han Dynasty and immediately prior to the period of the Three Kingdoms in ancient China. The film was directed by John Woo, and stars Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Zhang Fengyi, Chang Chen, Hu Jun, Lin Chi-ling and Zhao Wei.

Within Asia, Red Cliff was released in two parts, totaling over four hours in length. The first part was released in July 2008 and the second in January 2009. Outside of Asia, a single 2½ hour film was released in 2009, though the two-part version was later released on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK. With an estimated budget of US$80 million, Red Cliff is the most expensive Asian-financed film to date. The first part of the film grossed US$124 million in Asia and broke the box office record previously held by Titanic in mainland China

Plot/synopsis: In 208 A.D., in the final days of the Han Dynasty, shrewd Prime Minister Cao Cao convinced the fickle Emperor Han the only way to unite all of China was to declare war on the kingdoms of Xu in the west and East Wu in the south. Thus began a military campaign of unprecedented scale, led by the Prime Minister, himself. Left with no other hope for survival, the kingdoms of Xu and East Wu formed an unlikely alliance. Numerous battles of strength and wit ensued, both on land and on water, eventually culminating in the battle of Red Cliff. During the battle, two thousand ships were burned, and the course of Chinese history was changed forever.

Review: Broken Embraces (Spanish: Los abrazos rotos) is a 2009 Spanish film by Pedro Almodóvar set in the 1990s and present day. The film centers on a four-way tale of dangerous love, and was shot in the style of a hard-boiled 1950s American film noir, more themed to the neo-noir genre. The cast includes many Almodóvar regulars such as Ángela Molina, Lola Dueñas and Penélope Cruz (her fourth film with the director). The film’s soundtrack features acclaimed artists such as Cat Power, Uffie, and Can.

Plot/synopsis: “Broken Embraces” is a four-way tale of amour-fou, shot in the style of ’50s American film noir at its most hard-boiled, and will mix references to works like Nicholas Ray’s “In a Lonely Place” and Vincente Minnelli’s “The Bad and the Beautiful,” with signature Almodóvar themes such as Fate, the mystery of creation, guilt, unscrupulous power, the eternal search of fathers for sons, and sons for fathers.

Review: Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans is an upcoming film directed by Werner Herzog and starring Nicolas Cage. Filming began in July 2008 in Louisiana, and also around South Mississippi shooting some scenes at the Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis. The film will be released on November 20, 2009.

Plot/synopsis: In Werner Herzog’s new film “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans,” Nicolas Cage plays a rogue detective who is as devoted to his job as he is at scoring drugs — while playing fast and loose with the law. He wields his badge as often as he wields his gun in order to get his way. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina he becomes a high-functioning addict who is a deeply intuitive, fearless detective reigning over the beautiful ruins of New Orleans with authority and abandon. Complicating his tumultuous life is the prostitute he loves (played by Eva Mendes). Together they descend into their own world marked by desire, compulsion, and conscience. The result is a singular masterpiece of filmmaking: equally sad and manically humorous.

Review: Uncertainty is a 2008 indie drama film written, produced, and directed by American independent filmmakers Scott McGehee and David Siegel, and starring Lynn Collins and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It was first released at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival. Distribution rights were acquired by IFC Films and was limited released on November 13, 2009. It will be simultaneously made available to cable viewers via Video-On-Demand. The film was shot in HD on the Arriflex D-20.

Plot/synopsis: A young couple find one seemingly ordinary July 4th cleaved in two by the flip of a coin on the Brooklyn Bridge.
